Armstrong High School Advanced Placement Coordinator Kate Fuller is one of Robbinsdale Area Schools’ remarkable staff members.

Kate helped implement the College Board’s Advanced Placement Capstone program at Armstrong for the 2016-17 school year. Capstone is an innovative and engaging college-level program for high school students that complements and enhances discipline-specific AP courses. Armstrong will be one of only two schools in Minnesota to offer the program next fall.

“It’s very exciting,” Kate says. “I think it will really push students, academically. I think it will give them help in preparing for a very scholarly career, getting a broad perspective on real-world issues and looking at them through different lenses. It’s putting all the pieces together.”

Kate began her teaching career 15 years ago at Armstrong. She started teaching English, and transitioned into coordinating the Advancement Via Individual Determination and Advanced Placement programs four years ago. She comes from a family of teachers, and enjoys working with students.

“I always encourage students to pursue what they are interested in and what they have a passion for,” she says. “Listening to them is very important. When you connect with students, you understand what they are excited about, and when they are excited about school, it becomes a much better place for them and for everyone around them.”
