Welcome to AVID!

AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college.  The AVID program was started in Robbinsdale Area Schools in 2006-07 and currently serves students in grades 7-12 at Plymouth Middle, Robbinsdale Middle, Sandburg Middle, Armstrong and Cooper High Schools.

AVID targets academically promising students (GPA of 2.0-3.5) and places them in advanced courses, while supporting them through the AVID elective.  The class focuses on writing, critical thinking, collaboration, reading, note-taking, study skills and college/career/motivational activities.

AVID levels the playing field for students without a college-going tradition in their families and/or students who are underrepresented on four-year college campuses.

AVID is designed to increase overall academic performance, success in rigorous curriculum, and participation in activities at school.  AVID helps students become better educated, responsible citizens, and leaders in society.

Students apply to be in the AVID Elective course.  The application process includes a short written response, teacher recommendation and interview.  Contacting one of the AVID Coordinators listed below is the best way to get more information and an application.
